AVRT (AV Reciprocating Tachycardia) in Reseda, CA
Atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia, often called AVRT, is a type of SVT that uses an extra electrical pathway around the AV node. Recovered practice education distinguished it from AVNRT. A cardiac electrophysiologist may evaluate this pattern when symptoms or testing raise that question.
What AVRT is
Recovered education stated that AVRT is similar to AVNRT in that an extra electrical pathway allows the signal to travel backward from the ventricles to the atria.
In AVRT, the extra pathway circumvents the AV node, or “gate.” That extra pathway around the outside of the AV node is called an accessory pathway.
How this relates to Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
An accessory pathway is also the electrical feature discussed in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Not every accessory pathway is the same, and not every fast rhythm is WPW. A physician interprets EKGs and symptoms together.
How specialists may evaluate it
History, EKG, monitoring, and sometimes an electrophysiology study may be used to see whether an accessory pathway is present and how it behaves.
